Failing External SSD? No Problem
SSDs have become far more widespread in recent years, and for good reason. However, data loss events involving SSDs are often far more complex and require advanced training and equipment to deal with. As a result, many data recovery companies tend to struggle to fully resolve some of these cases.
At Secure Data Recovery, we have an extensive library of SSD controllers and state-of-the-art soldering stations for physical damage, as well as cutting-edge software that provides us with low-level access to the device’s firmware. If your external SSD is failing, rest assured that we’ll retrieve your data from it.
We Have Experience With All Failure Types
We’ve dealt with physical failures, such as locking spindles or broken actuator arms, electronic failures such as faulty fans, logical failures like file corruption, and much more. Over the years, our technicians have indeed seen it all, and are prepared with both the expertise and the tools to recover your data efficiently and effectively.
One of the things that sets us apart is our certified Class 10 ISO 4 cleanroom. A cleanroom is free of debris like dust particles and other contaminates that can further damage delicate parts. With a Class 10 ISO 4 certification, we can ensure that there is a maximum of 10 particles with a diameter of 0.5 micrometers per 0.0283 cubic metres.
Our 96% success rate speaks for itself, whatever the issue that’s plaguing your external hard drive, we’ve got you covered.
Types of External Hard Drive Failure
When it comes to types of external hard drive failures that may lead to data loss, they all generally fall into one of three types: physical, electronic, or logical. There are a myriad of failures of each type, but we describe a few of the most common of each below.
Bear in mind, however, that whatever the problem on external HDDs or SSDs, we’re confident in our team’s ability to resolve it swiftly.
Physical Failures
- Platter Damage
- Grinding, clicking, or beeping
- PCB Damage
Mechanical Failures
- Head Crash
- Motor Failure
- Actuator Failure
Logical Failures
- Corruption Due To a Virus
- Reformatting
- Encryption
- Accidental deletion
Physical Failures
Hard drives contain internal parts that move at high speeds, and as such, they endure wear and tear as they age and become less reliable as a result. A hard drive’s read/write heads rest just above the surface of the platters that contain your data, and should they come into contact with the platters, data loss may occur. In addition to internal wear-and-tear and scratching, other common physical failures include PCB damage, water or fire Damage, and platter damage.
For example, a beeping Seagate hard drive often signals physical failure.
Electronic Failures
When an external hard drive has an electronic issue, it can either stop working entirely or report an error message. Electronic failures can be just as fatal for a hard drive as physical failures, and when they occur, are best dealt with by experienced data recovery professionals.
Logical Failures
External hard drives can also lose data as a result of non-physical, or logical, errors that affect how the drive operates.
