Remember when we were young, and dinosaurs stalked the earth, we were taught that computers could die and, thus, we should back up our data (on countless floppy disks). Luck is not a plan.As I have a small SDD in my laptop, I keep work and non-work files on two different (spinning disk) external hard drives.The Verbatim, which might be 10 years old, was turning off on its own for a few months. Disconnecting and plugging it back in would turn it back on, no problem. MS would do a scan and find nothing to fix. In the back of my mind, I knew that I should be backing up both drives but every month other frivolities, like food, would empty my wallet so I put off buying a big SSD.Then, one day, it would not open and invited me to reformat the drive. I knew that would wipe out everything, which went from decades of digital pictures to tax returns for myself and some friends.
